Keeping your Website Simple

As a marketer I look at a lot of websites. We all spend our time trawling through websites looking for suppliers, traders, shopping, restaurants, holidays, music, videos the list goes on. The quicker we can get to the information we are looking for the better. There is nothing worse than having to trawl through lots of confusing information, where we lose interest and abandon ship and return to our google search.

So as a business owner it is important to strip back a loaded website and start with the simple basics. I always say “if a child can navigate your website then it’s a good one”. We all like eye catching images, buttons and text telling us what you do and where I can get it.

Your website has less than a second to convert a visitor into a customer. So make sure everything is right from your design, font, color choices, content to usability as it will influence a person’s decision to stay on your page.

My top tips

  • Keep the layout simple Have a clear call to action (CTA)
  • Have consistent branding
  • Use good quality images
  • Think about your mobile site experience
  • Of course it is important not only to look good but your website needs to be found by Google, so make sure you have good Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
